We received this email today via one of our associates, who was sent a warning message from a top-flight football club warning about Phishing emails are circulating that appear have been sent from one of their users. It alerted club member to the fact that messages had been sent to club members from an address that resembled very closely the domain name of the football club in question and probably used branding and standard template of their regular notice emails. The point of this is that a loyal fan will be excited to receive an email from their beloved team and would act upon it without too much thought or hesitation. It is important to point out that this is no indication that the system of this club has been compromised, but goes to show the cunning methods used by scammer and just how important staff training and education, coupled with strong processes and procedures.
We provide here a reproduction of the notice with the names changed to protect the innocent, however any real football fan will probably be able to work out who they are. Hint: They are much, much better than Arsenal.
